EPL: United Still Winless After Fulham Draw
Manchester United’s search for a first Premier League victory of the season continued on Sunday as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Fulham at Craven Cottage.
Ruben Amorim’s side missed a golden chance to take control when captain Bruno Fernandes blasted a first-half penalty over the bar after a VAR review penalized Calvin Bassey for grappling Mason Mount.
United eventually went ahead on the hour mark when Rodrigo Muniz turned Leny Yoro’s header into his own net. But the hosts hit back 17 minutes from time as substitute Emile Smith Rowe ghosted into the box to convert Alex Iwobi’s cross.
Fulham were left aggrieved that Yoro’s push on Bassey in the build-up to the opener was not reviewed by VAR, while United were frustrated at letting another lead slip after last weekend’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal.
Amorim, tasked with improving on last season’s dismal 15th-place finish, is still waiting for his revamped attack of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko to click.
Meanwhile at Selhurst Park, Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo dismissed speculation about his future after a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace.
Ismaila Sarr put Palace ahead before Callum Hudson-Odoi equalized for Forest, extending Nuno’s winless start to the campaign. Reports last week suggested his relationship with club owner Evangelos Marinakis had soured, but the Portuguese coach insisted: “That is nonsense. It does not make any kind of sense.”
