The Archdiocese of Benin City welcomes a new face to a pivotal role as Rev. Fr. Michael Eloghosa Osagie steps in as the Personal Secretary to His Grace, Most Rev. Augustine Obiora Akubeze, the Archbishop of Benin City.
This significant appointment follows the departure of the former secretary, Rev. Fr. Francis Morah, who has relocated to Rome for advanced studies.
Fr. Eloghosa, a young, talented, and humble priest, brings a vibrant energy to the Archbishop’s office.
Ordained for the Archdiocese of Benin City on August 19, 2023, his journey to priesthood is marked by dedication and a clear calling.
Born in Urhonigbe, Edo State, to Comrade & Mrs. G. I. Osagie, Fr. Michael’s early education began at Word of Faith Group of Schools before he proceeded to St. Rita Comprehensive High School for his secondary education. Even as an ardent altar server, his zeal for the Lord’s house was evident, propelling him towards a life of service.
His priestly formation commenced in 2014 with the “year-seven programme” at St. Paul Minor Seminary in Benin City, followed by a spiritual year at St. Albert the Great Major Seminary. Convinced of his vocation, he delved into philosophical and theological studies at the prestigious Ss. Peter and Paul Major Seminary, Bodija, Ibadan.
Throughout his formation, Fr. Michael gained diverse pastoral experiences at various parishes, including St. Andrew Catholic Church, Iguobazuwa (2016); St. Lucy Catholic Church, Okhuokhuo-Isi (2017); Assumption Catholic Church (2018); Archdiocesan Chancery (2019-2020); Sacred Heart Catholic Church (2021); and St. Stephen Catholic Church, Egbeta (2022). He also showcased strong leadership qualities within the seminary, serving as the Dean of the Deacon’s class and President of the Seminarian’s Association of Benin City Archdiocese (SAABEC).
Beyond his new role as Personal Secretary, Fr. Eloghosa Osagie has also assumed pastoral responsibilities as the new Priest in charge of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, Ogheghe, in Benin City. His appointment is a testament to his commitment and the promising future he holds within the Archdiocese.
