Tinubu to Military: Crush All Threats to Nigeria’s Unity Without Hesitation
By Augustine Orapine
The president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has given the Nigerian Armed Forces a firm directive to confront and eliminate all threats to the country’s unity and sovereignty, declaring full government support in the fight against terrorism, insurgency, banditry, and separatist agitation.
Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the grand finale of the 2025 Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) held at Murtala Square, Kaduna, President Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to national security and military welfare.
“To the officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army, I say this with absolute clarity: the time to rise is now,” Tinubu charged. “You have my full authorization and the trust of the Nigerian people to confront and defeat those who seek to undermine our nation.”
He described terrorism, insurgency, banditry, and separatism as existential threats that endanger the future of Nigeria.
“These evils do not discriminate. They destroy churches and mosques alike, and orphan children without asking their tribe or faith,” he stated. “But under this administration, the welfare and strength of our armed forces remain paramount.”
The President also paid solemn tribute to fallen and wounded soldiers, acknowledging their ultimate sacrifices in defense of the nation.
“Many of our finest have fallen in the line of duty. Some now lie in silence beneath the soil of a grateful nation, others carry the wounds of oath as living reminders of sacrifices made in our name. Their blood will not be shed in vain,” Tinubu said.
He extended appreciation to military families, particularly lauding the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA) and the Nigerian Army Soldiers’ Wives Association (NASWA), for their steadfast support.
“We have no other country but Nigeria. We must not mortgage our future to division, indifference, or delay. Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria and long live our Armed Forces,” he declared.
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, in his address, emphasized the Nigerian Army’s longstanding role as a stabilizing force since its establishment in 1863. He reiterated the Army’s resolve to lead the charge in safeguarding the country’s territorial integrity.
“This year’s NADCEL theme, ‘Developing the Soldier First Concept: Imperative for the Nigerian Army Transformation Drive’, reflects our renewed focus on building a motivated and professional force,” Oluyede said.
He assured the public of the military’s commitment to neutralize all security threats, noting that the Army is working in close coordination with the Navy, Air Force, and other security agencies.
The NADCEL 2025 grand finale featured a display of military prowess including a parade, tactical demonstrations, and exhibitions showcasing the Army’s operational readiness and advanced hardware.
Dignitaries in attendance included former Head of State General Yakubu Gowon; Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani; Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar; Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle; Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa; and former Army Chiefs Lt. Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, and Lt. Gen. Faruk Yahaya.
Also present were traditional rulers, members of the diplomatic corps, lawmakers, top military commanders, and other distinguished guests.
The event served not only as a celebration of the Army’s achievements but also a strong declaration of the federal government’s commitment to national unity, peace, and security.
